Have you heard of Smishing (SMS-Phishing)?
Smishing is an attempt at a security attack, in which the phone user is tricked into either downloading a malicious code onto their mobile device or into giving their personal data over.
- Receive a text message that seems to come from a trusted source and legitimate contact with another urgent request that contains an attachment.
- Never give away your personal details if a text from unknown number request them.
- Do not respond to text message from unknown number.
- Avoid clicking any links from senders.
- Block the number to prevent further messages.
NEVER SCAN A QR CODE FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE.
Security risks involved with use of QR codes
- Phishing.
- Malicious software distribution.
- Pointing to potentially harmful websites.
How to Protect Yourself from Malicious QR Codes
- Be careful before scanning a QR code, make sure it is not covering another code.
- Beware when opening an app store or a website in your browser, make sure that the QR code has taken you to the place you expected to go.
- Make sure it was developed by the company whose ad after opening an apps store or a website in your browser.
- Check the application’s rating and feedback.
- Check the complete URL on the website.
- Never give personal or login info.

Spotting a Social Engineering Attack
- They request something valuable from you.
- They want to keep the matter secret or private.
- They want you to take urgent action.
- They approach you from a position of authority.
